State aid scheme to support the economy in the context of the Coronavirus pandemic
The sudden emergency linked to the COVID-19 epidemic that reached Europe in the early months of 2020 represented a serious threat to public health worldwide, but also a serious shock to the economy. The impact on the economy of the current pandemic occurs through several channels: decrease in supply due to the numerous problems of supply chains, a decrease in demand caused by less demand from consumers, the lack of liquidity of companies and the great uncertainty about state aid plans to support the economy.
Slovenia, after the first doubts about the effectiveness of the state support regime in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, proved to be a state that has helped businesses and small entrepreneurs to facilitate the drastic fall in demand and the closure of activities due to the lock down.
Already during the first wave that began in March 2020, sole proprietors and small business owners received aid of 700 EUR and were justified from monthly contributions, municipalities gave free rents for the months of total closure of the country. With the second wave, sole proprietors and small business owners are receiving 1100 EUR for each month of lock down (the 1st instalment was already distributed on 10.11.2020).
